I’ve booked my travel to UbuntuLIVE, a conference scheduled for July 22-24 in Portland, Oregon. It will be interesting to see how this conference evolves over the next few years.
Right now, it’s mostly for developers and Linux industry insiders. But I suspect the event will evolve to attract K-12 and university CIOs, teachers, end-users and even consumers over the next two to three years. Apple has proven that there’s room in the market for more than one consumer PC operating system. If Dell finds a consumer market for Ubuntu over the next few months, we could start to see mainstream school PCs preloaded with Edubuntu, which serves the education market.
I’ll deliver regular reports from the conference.
