I’ve noticed that many sites on the Web require Java code that doesn’t come preinstalled on my Dell PC. I’m sure it’s an easy fix (fingers crossed). I haven’t had a chance to read up on Java, find the appropriate downloads to work with Firefox, etc. I’ll be sure to do so after the 4th of July holiday here in the states. I assume the rest of the free (Ubuntu) world has already found the appropriate downloads. I’ll catch up … soon!
Go, to system sources, turn on third party resources. go to synaptic package manager type java and tick the java 6 ones.
voila!
Yes, use automatix (http://www.getautomatix.com) and browse thru the applications and you will find the Java environment.
The packages you need: sun-java6-jre, sun-java6-fonts (suggested) and sun-java6-plugin (for Mozilla-based browsers)
BTW, those are in the multiverse repository, so be sure to enable it if you don’t see them.
You can also get the plugin as a dependency of installing the ubuntu-restricted-extras package will install Java as well as Flash and a few other thing.
Here are my notes on Feisty from which I’ve extracted the above: http://members.shaw.ca/Limulus/feisty.html
